cover art:
This album cover is the first of a number of album covers which include a variety of altered guitars doing things guitars don't normally do. This guitar, for example, is sailing the ocean shooting torpedoes at ships. All we see of the guitar is the neck and part of the back. The guitar is sailing toward us, and the torpedo it has just shot is in the air on the right-hand side of the picture with the words "NEVER SAY DIE" written on it. There are spouts of water in a line in front of the guitar (flak), and in the distance there is a burning ship (which may or may not be made of a guitar) and a plane which is going down in flames.
Michael's review:
This album is especially significant to me, because "The Coloring Song" is the first Petra song that ever caught my attention. The arrangement is very different; simply bass drum, tambourine, acoustic guitar, double "flutes" and voice: "Red is the color of the blood that flowed down the face of Someone Who loved us so. He's the perfect man, He's the Lord's own Son, He's the Lamb of God, He's the only one that can give us life, that can make us grow, that can make the love between us flow." Each verse treats a different color. With this album they went back to rockers"Chameleon" is the kind of song you turn up REALLY loud and irritate your neighbors, and "Angel of Light" is slower but you probably won't be turning it down on this one either. "Never Say Die" is one of those songs that can bring you up when you're down in the dumps: "Never say die, no, you've come too far to turn back now; give it one more try and He will see you through. Never say die, no, we are weak but He is strong, and strength He will supply when you ask Him to." "For Annie" is a pretty song and a real tear-jerker, but it's easy to get tired of. "Praise Ye The Lord" is one of my top favorite Petra songs of all time... I like to lip-sync Greg X. Volz's scat singing at the end. Call me strange. That song and the other one written by Greg, "Without Him We Can Do Nothing", are both excellent rock praise music, and are the seeds that eventually grew into Petra Praise · The Rock Cries Out.
